About

Dean Furman is widely regarded as one of South Africa's most intelligent and dependable midfielders of his generation. Born on 22 June 1988 in Cape Town, South Africa, he moved to England at a young age, where he developed through the youth ranks at Chelsea before beginning a professional career that spanned clubs in England and South Africa. A defensive midfielder by trade, Furman built his reputation on tactical awareness, composure in possession, and exceptional leadership. Rather than relying on flair or physical dominance, he excelled through intelligent positioning, disciplined defending, and an ability to dictate the tempo of matches. His consistency made him an invaluable presence for every team he represented. At club level, Furman enjoyed notable spells with Oldham Athletic and Doncaster Rovers in England, where he became a respected leader and regularly captained his sides. Later, he returned to South Africa to play for SuperSport United, bringing valuable experience and professionalism to the Premier Soccer League. On the international stage, Furman was a cornerstone of the South African national team, Bafana Bafana. Earning more than 50 international caps, he captained his country on numerous occasions and represented South Africa at major tournaments, including the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations. His leadership, work ethic, and calm influence made him one of the team's most trusted figures during a period of transition. His 5 years at the Blues have been a journey to remember, with special scores scored from the midfielder in stoppage time away to Macclesfield and a long ranged effort in August 2025 at home to Gainsborough Trinity.
