Born in Wales on 12 December 1997, Smith began his career with Championship side Preston North End, progressing through the club’s academy before gaining valuable senior experience during loan spells with Bamber Bridge and Scottish Premiership outfit St Johnstone. Following spells with Southport, Droylsden, Atherton Collieries and FC United of Manchester, Smith built a strong reputation in non-league football as a reliable and versatile defender. His performances at Atherton Collieries earned him a move to Warrington Rylands ahead of the 2023/24 campaign, where he quickly established himself as an important member of the squad. A player who leads through his actions on the pitch, Smith is known for his tenacity in one-on-one situations, intelligent positioning and willingness to contribute in attack. His ability to deliver quality from wide areas, coupled with his defensive discipline, has made him a valuable asset on both sides of the ball. Smith’s influence at Rylands has been recognised by teammates and supporters alike. He was voted both Players’ Player of the Year and Supporters’ Player of the Year during the 2023/24 season and has since gone on to serve as the club’s vice-captain.
