Morris Heads Blues to Victory
Warrington Rylands recorded the second victory of their pre-season campaign beating Pilkington 1-0 at Gorsey Lane.
The St Helens based NWCFL First Division North side barely saw sight of their host’s goal but made Rylands work hard for their victory. Most of the play was centered in and around the Pilkington penalty area, but as in previous pre season games Rylands struggled to make the breakthrough.
Rylands best chances in the first half fell to Sam Egerton, who headed narrowly wide from a corner in the 8th minute, and Callum Dolan who whose shot thirty minutes later was beaten away by a good save from Pilkington goalkeeper Jake Hilton.
The ex Rylands keeper was unable to prevent Aaron Morris from scoring the game’s only goal on the stroke of half time with a powerful header from a corner.
The second half followed a similar pattern to the first with Rylands almost constantly on the attack but on too many occasions not being able to play the final ball to open up their opponents.
When they did manage to get their shot on target they were denied by several good saves by their former colleague.
