Worksop Town 2-1 Warrington Rylands FC

THE final away match of the season was a disappointment for Warrington Rylands as they lost 2-1 to a strong Worksop side.

The Worksop players, half of whom would not have looked out of place in a rugby league squad, scored the winner as the clock showed 90 minutes, giving The Blues no way back into the game.

The first half was easily forgotten with neither side taking control and with the flow of the match moving from end to end the teams went in at halftime with a goalless scoreline.

The deadline was broken on 60 minutes when Jordan Burrows tapped the ball into the net past Luke Pilling after it bounced back off the post. Warrington fought back and just four minutes later Djavan Pedro was brought down on the edge of the penalty area. Substitute James Baillie stepped up to take the kick which bounced off the post and back into play. Aaron Chapman in the home goal claims it was his fingertips that pushed the ball away but he could only watch as Sam Burns latched onto the rebound and put Rylands back into the game and still holding onto their unbeaten away record.

As the referee indicated there would be five minutes of extra time Worksop scored again with a sucker punch. Rylands believed they had been fouled in midfield and were preparing themselves for a free kick but the referee shouted play on. Paul Green was the first to react and ended with a one-on-one with Pilling to put the game to bed

Their unbeaten record was broken on the last away match of the season and with just one more game before the playoffs Warrington Rylands are hoping to bounce back to gain a home draw when they host Ilkeston Town at The Hive Arena next Saturday, April 27.
