Touray shines in the sun
In the sweltering seaside heat Momodou Touray set Warrington Rylands on their way to a convincing victory opening the scoring within two minutes of the kick off on an entertaining encounter.
Taking the first of many free kicks awarded in the game, Dean Furman clipped the ball from inside the centre circle into the path of Touray who held off a defenders challenge to advance into the area and stab the ball past Whitby Town goalkeeper Shane Bland.
Bland fared better a minute later when Rylands regained possession from the re-start, Touray slipped the ball to Adama Sidibeh whose shot was smothered by Bland.
Rylands kept up the pressure with Bland holding onto a header from James Butler at a corner and stopping a shot from Touray, but as the half progressed the home became more of a threat.
Rylands goalkeeper Luke Pilling dove bravely at the feet of Jacob Gratton as he dribbled his way through the Rylands area. Gratton also had a shot from outside the area blocked by Sam Wilson.
Shortly after a drink break, Whitby’s Jerome Graves turned a low free kick past Pilling but Butler cleared off the line. Butler also denied the same player in the closing minutes of the half with a last ditch clearance.
Rylands started the second half on the attack with Touray setting up Sidibeh whose shot was well saved by Bland and Touray’s follow up was blocked on the line by Harrison Beeden.
Whitby responded with Gratton forcing Pilling into a fine save to turn a shot round the post while Aaron Haswell landed a free kick on the roof of the Rylands net.
The home side drew level in the 54th minute. Rylands only half cleared an attack from their area allowing Coleby Shepherd to fire a defected shot into the net.
Play was switching from end to end with both sides creating chances. Wilson headed a James Baillie free kick over Whitby’s bar, Pilling pulled off a great reaction save to deny Adam Gell, Bland pulled off a flying save to keep out a Sidibeh header from a corner and Pilling tipped a Dan Rowe header over the bar.
Rylands regained the advantage in the 75th minute. Sidibeh whipped a cross in behind the Whitby defence, Touray controlled the ball cut inside and slotted past Bland.
Rowe struck a Rylands upright with a header and Baillie saw a powerful shot deflected wide before Rylands made the game safe in the 90th minute.
As the game entered stoppage time, Touray raced onto a ball played over the top of the Whitby defence by Baillie, pulling the ball back across the area he found Baillie who had continued his forward run to slide the ball past Bland to complete the scoring as Rylands leap frogged their hosts in the table moving up to 3rd.
