Warrington Rylands FC 2-0 Marine FC

MORE than 800 supporters packed into The Hive Arena to watch Warrington Rylands defeat Marine 2-0 in this near top-of-the-table clash.

With teams vying for a place in the play-offs it promised to be a tremendous battle as Marine attempted to replace Warrington in second place, but a goal in each half brought the spoils to the home side.

Marine, a large and physical team, certainly had their eyes on victory but The Blues were prepared to take them on man to man. Although The Mariners had the larger percentage of early possession they hardly threatened Pilling in goal, but when Momodou Touray broke the deadlock after being put through on goal by Captain James Neild the pressure was put onto the travelling side.

Looking as though the squad had been playing together all season Rylands moved the ball around the pitch with skill and determination, but it was Djavan Pedro’s goal ten minutes into the second half that appeared to clinch the result for Warrington.

Marine came strong to the end but James Butler and James Neild controlled the defence with the rest of the team beside them, and Luke Pilling was called upon to make just the one save.

Just as last week’s victory over Hyde moved them down a place in the league, Marine’s defeat by Warrington Rylands also dropped them to fourth with Macclesfield slowly climbing up the table and into third place.

Next Saturday will be yet another tough match when we travel to Guiseley, who are also hoping to move into a play-off place.
