Warrington Rylands FC 1-2 Lancaster City FC

Apr 14, 2024 | Match Reports

DESPITE losing 1-2 to a well organised Lancaster City, results elsewhere ensured that Warrington Rylands confirmed their place in the play-offs.

The Blues appeared to be in full control of the match maintaining the greater amount of possession, but however many attempts they had they could not find the target.

It took one superb effort by David Norris from outside the box for the away team to score on the stroke of half time.

Rylands came out fighting after the break and within minutes their shout for a penalty was disallowed by the referee. However, play went straight to the other end where another terrific shot, this time by Thomas Kilifin, beat Luke Pilling to double the lead.

The home side were not to sit back and except defeat though, and once again they pressured the opposition defence. This time a penalty was given and leading scorer Momodou Touray stepped up to the spot to reduce the deficit.

Despite creating several chances, some great saves by Tom Stewart and a determined defence, prevented the attacking home side from scoring the equaliser.

Warrington Rylands will now visit Worksop for their final away league match of the season knowing that a victory there and Marine failing to beat Atherton Collieries will secure a home advantage for the semi-finals.

There is also the chance of becoming unbeaten away from home for a whole season.
